By law they have to accept all kids. Charters are public schools and they do enrollment by lottery. In addition if you look at schools like KIPP, Greendot, etc they are going into neighborhoods with the greatest need (and lowest proficiency scores) and they are providing kids in these neighborhoods a chance they would not have had otherwise. High performing charter schools are giving kids in the toughest neighborhoods a solid education. If we continue to encourage our school board to open additional high performing charters in these neighborhoods we can reach more kids as well.by loren
