1). There are many charter schools that operate in areas where students need a lot of support - including poverty stricken communities - and they achieve great results. Many of the highest performing schools in LAUSD are charters in poverty stricken areas. 2) Charter schools have tremendous oversight and accountability - and are subject to more reporting that regular district schools. 3) Charters are non-profit, public, LAUSD schools. 4) Many charters pay teachers well, and many great teachers choose to work for high performing charters. 5). Today's teacher's union is part of the problem. They make it virtually impossible to terminate even a horrible teacher.
