I think the second part of your comment isn't completely true. LAUSD can shrink their fixed costs or find other ways to recoup revenue...For instance, buildings and electricity... they can rent those to other operators to recoup the costs. Regarding staff - that is harder. It's sad to say this - I do not say this lightly because we are talking about people's lives and their livelihoods. Good people are being buffeted by things completely out of their control - but, LAUSD can reduce it's payroll to stay solvent, as a response to shrinking enrollment. It could also choose to try and restrain charter school growth, instead. I understand that response completely as well.by Dan C
