If Melvoin is seen as a trouble maker, that is a a good thing. Being a trouble-maker is what is needed in LAUSD. As a teacher in the district I noticed that high quality schools were led by principals who ignored district policy, and the reverse: the more principles were eager to comply with every dictate to gain higher status jobs, the worse the schools.
